The article "The Impact of Using Blogs on College Students Reading Comprehension and Learning Motivation", is an article that discusses using blogs in college. Research was done to see how effective the use of blogs are. The research was done in a college with some classes using blogs and others not. The results of the research was very interesting. Many teachers believe that using technology in the classroom will help improve there students academic level. That was not the case with this blogging research. They have found that the groups of bloggers and non-bloggers scored around the same area with the reading. They found the biggest difference between the two groups in the classroom unity, the blogging class became like a community. When using technology in the classroom we have to keep these results in mind. We do want to add technology as there are benefits and that is what is in the world now, but we do need to make sure we have good and clear instructions for our studen...

Week 7 Assignment 2

Second Life (SL) is a great tool to use in the classroom. There are many features and parts that can help enhance an ELA lesson. Second Life welcomes you into a virtual world. Students will have a chance to explore and see things on SL that they really would not have an opportunity to see otherwise. While exploring I have found a few different ways you can use SL in an ELA lesson. The first way is by going on an virtual field trip using SL and then have the students do some sort of writing or activity based on what they have seen an explore. This can make the lesson interesting and exciting and also open up to the teachers many more topics that they can have their students writing about. Another way to have ELA go along with SL is, when you teach your class a unit in English SL can be used to explore different places and things that go along with your unit. This will help the students get a super clear picture of what they are learning. Using Second Life can really benefit your ELA les...

Article 1:  Theories and Practice of Multimodal Education   This article describes the multimodal aspect of education. Education has recently began to implement multimodal into the classroom lessons. When using multimodal in the classroom instead of just focusing on print when reading a story the class will focus on print along with images and graphics. So multimodal is combining the modes of texts along with the modes of the sociocognitive reading process. When using multimodal in reading everything has meaning; the text, the font, the colors and the images. It is important to use multimodal text in the classroom. There is many different ways for teacher to incorporate it into their lessons. This article has given me a very clear understanding on the topic and ideas of how I can use it in the classroom. Article 2:  Using the ADDIE Model to Design Second Life Activities for Online Learners Second Life (SL) is a 3D online virtual environment. SL gives it's user...

Week 3 Assignment 2

Which ideas from the PPT reflect what the ELA teachers you interviewed are currently doing to integrate technology with their literacy instruction? The ELA teacher that I interviewed does use some technology but not much as they don't have the proper resources for it in the school. The power point did reflect that the teacher will use technology to help her students better understand the literacy that they are learning. How can you help change their instructional practices to include the use of technology and the Internet in their literacy and content-area curriculum? I think that the school needs to learn more about new literacies and the importance of teaching our students about it. I think it would be very beneficial if the school would have someone give their teachers a workshop on  new literacies- what to teach the students and how to use all the technology. Being that I am familiar with the concept of new literacies I can tell the principle about it so that she can br...

Week 3 Assignment 1

Article 1: It is very important to teach our students new Literacies. New literacies includes digital and media technology. It is important that students should not just learn the traditional way, this new way of learning is needed for everyone student as this is the literacy of the world now. Students must know how to communicate using email, text and chats, know how to use search engines, and more. Though almost all classroom have computers and technology for the students to use, they do not go into use for a lot of the time. This is because teachers are nervous for various different reasons to use technology in their lessons. One teacher, Mr. Todd has used lots of technology in the classroom. His students all receive their own laptop which they are constantly using. Their has to be more teachers teaching like Mr. Todd and that way new literacies will be taught and the students will have the skills they need for life.  Article 2: Students must learn using new litera...

Week 2 Assignment 4

I have interviewed Mrs. C. S. Yudkowsky a first grade teacher in a school in Lakewood NJ. Her students are still young and the school does not have much technological integration, Mrs. Yudkowsky says, but she still uses some technology to enhance her ELA lessons. One thing Mrs. Yudkowsky does is she has listening center. The girls sit in a circle around a CD player and plug in headphones. The students then listen to a book being read while following in their own hard copy. This helps the students with fluency and print concepts. Mrs. Yudkowsky also uses songs and video's as necessary. Mrs. Yudkowsky uses technology, such as the web to help create and plan her lessons. She finds different ideas and sheets to use for her class. She can also check up which books and skills to use for her class. Mrs. Yudkowsky says that technology is definitely very helpful for her ELA lessons.
