Week 2 Assignment 4

I have interviewed Mrs. C. S. Yudkowsky a first grade teacher in a school in Lakewood NJ. Her students are still young and the school does not have much technological integration, Mrs. Yudkowsky says, but she still uses some technology to enhance her ELA lessons. One thing Mrs. Yudkowsky does is she has listening center. The girls sit in a circle around a CD player and plug in headphones. The students then listen to a book being read while following in their own hard copy. This helps the students with fluency and print concepts. Mrs. Yudkowsky also uses songs and video's as necessary. Mrs. Yudkowsky uses technology, such as the web to help create and plan her lessons. She finds different ideas and sheets to use for her class. She can also check up which books and skills to use for her class. Mrs. Yudkowsky says that technology is definitely very helpful for her ELA lessons.

Common Core Standards are a set of standards in Math and English. The purpose of these standards is that students should receive a well rounded education and be prepared to go onto college. Until recently each state had their own standards. Now they have created standards that are used by more than 40 states- this way the goals set are reached by all students and one can attend school or college anywhere. Teachers use the standards as the basis of their lessons. The end goal of each lesson is that the standards should be reached and achieved. Teachers have the flexibility to decide how to teach and reach the state standards. Theses Standards help our students succeed in the future.
