Who is responsible for which portion of the standards?
Grades K-5 are generally taught by one classroom teacher. This teacher makes sure to address all the state standards. Grades 6-12 on the other hand, depends on what subject the teacher. It will either be an ELA teacher or a history, science, or technical subject teacher.
5 Key Features of the Standards
- Reading- The main goal of reading is to get to comprehension. Students must comprehend what they have read and then apply it to life. Students should start with easier text and go onto more complex text as time goes on. When students read and comprehend they will be able to make connections among texts and ideas, consider wide range of textual evidence and more.
- Writing- Students should have know all the necessary writing skills such as plan, revise, edit, and publish. Writing goes hand in hand with reading and is an important skill for the students to have. It is also important that a student should know how to research for a writing.
- Speaking and listening- This is important for a students formal presentation, oral communication, and interpersonal skills. Students will have the ability to listen to information and repeat and present what they know.
- Language- Having a good vocabulary is an important thing. There are many different tools and ways to help one acquire a greater vocabulary.
