Second Life (SL) is a great tool to use in the classroom. There are many features and parts that can help enhance an ELA lesson. Second Life welcomes you into a virtual world. Students will have a chance to explore and see things on SL that they really would not have an opportunity to see otherwise. While exploring I have found a few different ways you can use SL in an ELA lesson. The first way is by going on an virtual field trip using SL and then have the students do some sort of writing or activity based on what they have seen an explore. This can make the lesson interesting and exciting and also open up to the teachers many more topics that they can have their students writing about. Another way to have ELA go along with SL is, when you teach your class a unit in English SL can be used to explore different places and things that go along with your unit. Article 1: It is very important to teach our students new Literacies. New literacies includes digital and media technology. It is important that students should not just learn the traditional way, this new way of learning is needed for everyone student as this is the literacy of the world now. Students must know how to communicate using email, text and chats, know how to use search engines, and more. Though almost all classroom have computers and technology for the students to use, they do not go into use for a lot of the time. This is because teachers are nervous for various different reasons to use technology in their lessons. One teacher, Mr. Todd has used lots of technology in the classroom. His students all receive their own laptop which they are constantly using.
