Week 3 Assignment 2


  • Which ideas from the PPT reflect what the ELA teachers you interviewed are currently doing to integrate technology with their literacy instruction?
The ELA teacher that I interviewed does use some technology but not much as they don't have the proper resources for it in the school. The power point did reflect that the teacher will use technology to help her students better understand the literacy that they are learning.

  • How can you help change their instructional practices to include the use of technology and the Internet in their literacy and content-area curriculum?
I think that the school needs to learn more about new literacies and the importance of teaching our students about it. I think it would be very beneficial if the school would have someone give their teachers a workshop on  new literacies- what to teach the students and how to use all the technology. Being that I am familiar with the concept of new literacies I can tell the principle about it so that she can bring it to her school. I can also help the teachers I work with to bring new literacies into their classroom and integrate it into their lessons. I can give them different ideas and explain the concept to them.
  • What professional development and/or resources will they need in order to make these changes?
In order to make these changes the school will need someone who is very familiar with new literacies and it components to work with the school and help the figure it out. They will need training for the teachers as well as a mentor sort of person for the teachers to ask all their questions to. The school will also have to advance and get more  technological devices so that each class can have their own and it will be readily available for use.
  • What ideas do you have for grouping students so they will have equal access to technology in the classroom?
If the class is unable to get enough technological devices that each students should have their own then it is important to group the students properly so they should all have equal access to the technology. The first way you can do that is by putting students o similar academic levels in the same group. By doing this you wont just have the strong students enjoying technology, you will have all the students using the technology. Another thing you can do, is part of the assignment should be that all students should have a turn with the technology. One last way you can ensure equal access is by doing centers, so that only a portion of students need the technology at that time.
