Article 1: Theories and Practice of Multimodal Education
This article describes the multimodal aspect of education. Education has recently began to implement multimodal into the classroom lessons. When using multimodal in the classroom instead of just focusing on print when reading a story the class will focus on print along with images and graphics. So multimodal is combining the modes of texts along with the modes of the sociocognitive reading process. When using multimodal in reading everything has meaning; the text, the font, the colors and the images. It is important to use multimodal text in the classroom. There is many different ways for teacher to incorporate it into their lessons. This article has given me a very clear understanding on the topic and ideas of how I can use it in the classroom.
Article 2: Using the ADDIE Model to Design Second Life Activities for Online Learners
Second Life (SL) is a 3D online virtual environment. SL gives it's users a chance to observe things that they can not really see in an almost real life way. Besides for allowing user to view many different places and things SL also allows users to communicate with one another through avatars. Using SL has many great advantages to it but it does not mean automatic success to online learning. For teachers to effectively use they should follow the ADDIE model and they will then have success. The ADDIE model has 5 parts to it; analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. It is very important to follow all these steps so that students and instructors can enjoy the benefits of SL to its fullest. I really enjoyed reading over this article, I especially liked how they gave us good tips to makes sure we will be able to make SL do the job it should.
