Instructional Activities
- This game will help students read see pictures of things that have either a long or short vowel sound, the students will then have to click on the word that says what the picture is
- students will have previously learned the long and short vowel sounds
- teacher will review with the students the different sounds that vowels can make
- students will have a chance to play the game as a review- the game is a mix of short and long vowel sounds- the game will show a picture and the students will click on the cloud that spells out their picture
- the students will then review together the different words that they saw
Assessment
- Formal- teacher will check the students score once they finished the game
- Informal- teacher will listen out when class is reviewing
Debriefing
- this will be done at the end of the game when there will be a classroom discussion of the game, the words and the spelling. We will discuss where we can see all these different kinds of words- in the store, at home, in the classroom, on the road. It is therefore very important to be able to read all these words.
What cognitive skills does this game cultivate?
- Students are practicing literacy skills and matching a word to a picture. At the same time they have to be focused and looking which cloud has the words they are looking for.
What new literacies does this game cultivate?
- This game is teaching students the literacy skill of short vowel and long vowel through using the computer and technology as a learning tool.
