Week 3 Assignment 1


Article 1:
It is very important to teach our students new Literacies. New literacies includes digital and media technology. It is important that students should not just learn the traditional way, this new way of learning is needed for everyone student as this is the literacy of the world now. Students must know how to communicate using email, text and chats, know how to use search engines, and more. Though almost all classroom have computers and technology for the students to use, they do not go into use for a lot of the time. This is because teachers are nervous for various different reasons to use technology in their lessons. One teacher, Mr. Todd has used lots of technology in the classroom. His students all receive their own laptop which they are constantly using. Their has to be more teachers teaching like Mr. Todd and that way new literacies will be taught and the students will have the skills they need for life. 

Article 2:
Students must learn using new literacies as that is the only way they can make it into the world. The teachers must teach their students according to this new way. There are many different programs available to teach teachers how to use the technology and integrated into new literacy's. It is important for teacher's, parents, school administrators, and others involved in children's education to know what their responsibilities in this are and how they can accomplish it. 

Article 3
This article discusses technology and new literacy's and explains the concept well. New literacies is a term that is hard to define as is constantly changing as more is added to technology. There are 3 social forces that are framing the literacy we are learning today. First, the global economic competition, second, the use of internet and ICT's, and third, Government policies made to ensure higher levels of achievement in literacy using the Internet and ICT's. It is important for educators to know what is happening with new literacy's and implement them into the classroom.

All in all
New literacies is the way the literacy must be  taught to students these days. Learning new literacies will help the students have the knowledge they need when they go into the world. Educators must learn and get the tools of how to use new literacies in the classroom

    Great summaries! The articles pretty much all discuss the same thing yet touch on some different points. I like the fact that you included one summation of them all.

Week 3 Assignment 2

Which ideas from the PPT reflect what the ELA teachers you interviewed are currently doing to integrate technology with their literacy instruction? The ELA teacher that I interviewed does use some technology but not much as they don't have the proper resources for it in the school. The power point did reflect that the teacher will use technology to help her students better understand the literacy that they are learning. How can you help change their instructional practices to include the use of technology and the Internet in their literacy and content-area curriculum? I think that the school needs to learn more about new literacies and the importance of teaching our students about it.
